The second networking workshop for the IHATEC, DigiTest and DTW funding programmes took place yesterday at the TÜV Rheinland Group site in Cologne. TÜV Rheinland's research and innovation management team organised this workshop as part of its commission from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV).
Together with the BMDV as the funding organisation, the experts from the maritime industry discussed the challenges of future workplace design in German inland navigation.
In addition to exciting specialist presentations on the potential of automation in German ports and on waterways, the experts used the subsequent interactive formats to deepen the discussion on the role of people.
The results of this second networking workshop clearly show that automation and digitalisation offer great opportunities to increase efficiency and safety in ports by creating new job profiles and taking on difficult or dangerous tasks. At the same time, it is crucial to promote the continuous training and further education of the workforce as well as attractive working conditions and international recruitment in order to counter the shortage of skilled labour.
One message is particularly important to everyone involved: people will remain at the centre of all initiatives and future workplace designs.
A representative of DST took part in this event on behalf of CoboTank.
