The CoboTank 1:1 has arrived

31 October 2025 15:38

Today, the CoboTank – a full-scale 1:1 collaborative robot – was delivered to the Chair of Mechatronics at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

With this delivery, we have reached an important milestone shortly before the conclusion of the overall project and brought this exceptional research initiative another step to life.

The goal of the project is to develop a collaborative and semi-automated robotic system to support the loading operations of inland tanker vessels.

Where precise software meets massive mechanics:

  • Multiple 6-axis force-torque sensors for safe and sensitive human-robot interaction
  • A 20-foot platform as a mobile work base
  • A 1.4-ton manually guided industrial robot mounted on a linear axis
  • 150-mm tanker hoses with a dedicated pumping unit
  • Intelligent control software orchestrating all components in real time

From high-precision control engineering to massive mechanical forces — this project brings together the full spectrum of mechatronics.

A big thank-you to the entire team for their outstanding commitment!

We are excited to begin extensive testing and to present the system to the public in early December.
