Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems

The Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems (DST) in Duisburg has more than 60 years of experience in the development and investigation of inland- and coastal vessels. Transport and logistics issues are dealt with just as intensively, both from a technical and an economic point of view.

One focus of the DST's activities is the investigation of flow problems of ships in inland- and coastal waters and the support of the industry in the development and modernization of ships. In addition, wave and current power plants are investigated and many other special projects are carried out.

Furthermore, the focus is on technical, economic and logistical transport issues with the aim of opening up new potential for inland navigation and thus contributing to the economic and environmentally friendly management of the growing demand for transport.

In the Logistics & Transport field of activity, in which the CoboTank project is located, the development of transport and handling solutions based on digitalization and automation is playing an increasingly important role alongside economic and analytical issues relating to inland waterway transport and the use of discrete-event simulation to investigate logistics processes and concepts.
