The Background

The progressive automation of inland waterway transport is only effective if it is viewed holistically. The importance of liquid cargo handling in inland ports is often neglected in this context. The great need for future-proof, automated solutions in the field of liquid cargo handling is addressed by the CoboTank project.
The Background

The Objectives & Aims

The CoboTank project is implementing a semi-automated collaborative robotic system, a so-called cobot, to support the loading process of tankers. In addition to the cobot, a robotic arm is being developed to implement a fully automated refueling process.

The Solution

On 4th September 2023, the test centre for innovative port and handling technologies (HaFoLa) was officially opened at the DST - Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems e.V. site in Duisburg. From autumn 2024, the corresponding tests for the development of the semi-automated cobot will be carried out on a scale of 1:10.
